Document Checklist for College Application

Thank you for considering Best Consultancy Nepal to assist you in finding the best course and college for your further studies. Click on the links (texts marked blue) to get more info or samples. 

In order to start the process, we kindly request that you provide us with the following documents:

  • A copy of your passport.
  • Your IELTS/TOEFL/PTE certificate. (Note: You can also take Duolingo English Test for US, if you don’t have any test certificates, ask for Medium of Instruction certificate from college.)
  • Academic certificates, including:
    • SEE mark sheet, provisional certificate, and character certificate.
    • 10+2 or PCL transcript, mark sheet, provisional certificate, and character certificate.
    • Bachelor transcript, mark sheet, provisional, and character certificate.
  • Bio-data (optional)
  • Desired Course/College/State (if any)

Once, we shortlist finalize courses, you need to submit these additional documents.

  • If there is a gap of more than 1 year in your studies, please provide a work experience letter or a salary bank statement with an explanation.
  • Parent’s Name, Email, and Phone Number
  • A statement of purpose (For Australia) – 300 words
  • Personal Essay (For US) – 500–600 words
  • Bank Statement (For US)  (with min $40,000). Some colleges ask you to submit your bank statement upfront.
  • Letter of recommendation from College and Employer (For US) [2 LORs for Bachelors and 3 LORs for Masters]
  • List of awards and achievements
  • List of extracurricular activities

Things to keep in mind while preparing/submitting documents:

  • Make sure to scan the documents properly. If you are scanning with a mobile app, make sure to remove “camscanner” watermark or use “Simple Scanner App”. Also, ensure that the edges of the documents are visible (don’t crop out any part of the document)
  • Ask your recommender to include a personal email address and phone number in the recommendation letter.
  • DO NOT FORGE/PHOTOSHOP any document.

I didn’t do IELTS/PTE test. I need to apply quick. What should I do?

You can do Duolingo English test. Its an easy, cheap and quick test. You can give the test anytime from anywhere. All you need is a laptop or pc with good internet connection.

How long it takes to get offer letter?

It depends on a lot of factors. Usually it takes around 3-5 weeks from application date in most of the colleges and universities.

Are there application fees?

For Australia: Most universities don’t have application fees. For other countries: Yes, there are applications fees ranging from 25USD to 200USD. However, we will try to waive the application fee for you if possible.

What are the language requirements for studying abroad?

Language requirements vary depending on the country and the institution you are applying to. Commonly accepted language tests include IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo English Test, and Cambridge English exams. Check the specific requirements of your chosen university to ensure you meet the language proficiency criteria.

Can I apply to multiple universities at the same time?

Yes, you can apply to multiple universities simultaneously. It's common for students to apply to several institutions to increase their chances of getting accepted and to have more options to decide from.

Do I need to submit standardized test scores (SAT, ACT) for undergraduate programs?

While some universities in certain countries require SAT or ACT scores for undergraduate admissions, many institutions worldwide do not have this requirement. Make sure to review the admission guidelines of each university to determine if standardized test scores are necessary. For the United States, having SAT and ACT test can increase the chances of getting scholarships.

What is the minimum GPA required for admission?

The minimum GPA requirement varies across universities and programs. Generally, a GPA of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) or 55% is considered acceptable, but more competitive institutions might have higher GPA expectations. Always check the specific GPA requirements of your chosen university.

Are there scholarships available for international students?

Yes, many universities and governments offer scholarships specifically for international students. These scholarships can be merit-based, need-based, or related to specific fields of study. Research scholarship options early and ensure you meet the eligibility criteria to apply. We will help in research and application of scholarships. Please make sure to include a paragraph explaining that you will be requiring scholarship in your SOP/personal statement.

Can I work while studying abroad?

In many countries, international students are allowed to work part-time while studying. However, the number of hours and the types of jobs allowed may be restricted by the student visa regulations of the host country. Check the visa guidelines and work opportunities for international students in your chosen study destination. For most countries, there is 20 hours/week limit. In the United States, students can only work in-campus while studying.

Also, if you have paid the tuition fees in advance, you will get almost full refund from the universities. However, the application fees are non-refundable in most cases.
